Strip Mall Possible in CBad?

Written by admin on August 21, 2009

A proposal to build a strip mall in Carlsbad is causing controversy among homeowners near the proposed site.
The La Costa Town Square project will be an 83-acre shopping center that will have offices, retail stores and a multi-family housing complex.
The proposal calls for the shopping center to be built near the intersection of La Costa Avenue and Rancho Santa Fe Road.
The area will be slightly larger than The Forum shopping center, which it is proposed to resemble.

What do you guys think? That place is already booming enough…seems like they should move it to the other side of Carlsbad near the mall. I know it’s not as “high class” but nobody is going to be able to shop over there with a new strip mall. lol

Tri-City Is An Awful Hospital

Written by admin on August 19, 2009

Seriously, this place is such a dump! They are now facing $129,500 in fines for failing to promptly report four “adverse events” at the hospital, including a patient death, in 2008 and early 2009, according to state records. Can you believe that?

Such reporting problems aren’t unusual I guess —- almost all of North County’s hospitals have been fined at least once in the past two years for failing to report such incidents within five days of becoming aware of them, as state law mandates.

However, Tri-City’s fines are significantly larger because its delays in reporting were much longer. The fines grow by $100 a day.

In two instances, it took Tri-City more than 400 days to file a report with the California Department of Public Health, the agency that collects the data. Among other North County hospitals, the next-longest delay was at Scripps Encinitas, which incurred a $6,600 fine for reporting an incident 66 days late.

Hospital officials emphasized the fines aren’t related to patient care. Some noted that hospitals are still adjusting to new reporting requirements implemented by the state in 2007.

Local Sheriff Injured

Written by admin on August 15, 2009

A sheriff’s deputy was hospitalized over the weekend after the quad bike he was riding collided with another deputy in Imperial Beach.

The accident occurred Saturday morning near Seacoast Drive and Elder Avenue. Sheriff’s officials said one of the deputies was thrown from the vehicle, but he was wearing a helmet.

The deputy was taken to UCSD Medical Center. The other deputy involved in the collision was not injured.

I’m not really sure what they were doing, but, it doesn’t sound like it involved police work…lol

Car Flying Over The Freeway? Sorta

Written by admin on August 9, 2009

A wrecked 1984 Mercedes was airlifted from a cliff in Torrey Pines State Reserve on Friday afternoon, more than seven months after an accident left it in the environmentally sensitive nature area.

The multiagency effort, led by the state Parks Department and San Diego city lifeguards, was completed in about a half-hour.

Using chains and a tow line, a private helicopter lifted the car off its spot about 200 feet down the cliff. It was taken to an open area in Sorrento Valley near one of the entrances to the park.

The car had been on the cliff since Jan. 5 and was visible from Interstate 5 and other roadways more than a mile away, resulting in continuing calls to 911 from people who were unaware that the accident happened so long ago.

At the time of the crash, the driver was able to walk away and was heading up the cliff when rescuers arrived.

Tell me that is not one of the most crazy things you’ve ever heard. Heard it was amazing to see a car flying through the air next to the I-5.

Panda Gives Birth!! Yay!!

Written by admin on August 7, 2009

Zoo officials say the Zoo’s 17-year-old giant panda Bai Yun has given birth to a cub.

The zoo announced last week that Bai Yun, who has now given birth to five cubs, was pregnant.

It is too soon to know whether the cub, the 13th panda born in the United States, is male or female.

This is pretty awesome! We can’t go see it for a few months as they keep her and the baby in captivity in an area well hidden in the park, but, in a few months we’ll be able to. Pretty neat! I saw the last cub and it was so amazing!

Local Charges Broadcast Blacked Out

Written by admin on August 6, 2009

Cause you aren’t gonna be able to watch it locally!! As you know, the NFL has serious restrictions on blackouts on games that don’t sell out. Well, with the way the economy is, games simply aren’t going to sell out. The NBA, NHL, and MLB have all shown significant drops in attendance this year due to the lovely economy and the NFL isn’t going to be any different. Well, other than the fact that they don’t show un-sold out games on TV. Nice huh?

What a waste.

Coronado Bridge Turns 40

Written by admin on August 3, 2009

A San Diego landmark celebrated its 40th birthday Saturday. The Coronado Bridge opened to traffic in 1969 and now more than 75,000 drivers pass over the bridge each day.

Saturday morning, dozens of local leaders were on hand to celebrate one of America’s finest symbols.

Do any search on San Diego and chances are the distinctive blue bridge will be one of the first images to pop up on the screen: The Coronado Bridge.

Now celebrating its 40th year, its sleek and slender towers and smooth curve are as beautiful as ever, and its function is equally important.

I actually went down to the celebration yesterday and it was really awesome. I expected it to be pretty boring, but they had food and activities down at Chicano Park which was really fun – much more than I expected to say the least. A great job by the city for putting that on!
