San Marcos residents can get a sneak peek at the city’s newest park Saturday nearly three weeks before it opens if they’re willing to take a little hike.
Hikers will meet at 9 a.m. at Bradley Park at 1587 Linda Vista Drive before setting out on a 4-mile Discover San Marcos hike that includes Sunset Park and trails in the west part of the city.
City community services director Craig Sargent-Beach said Thursday that walkers in the city-hosted hike will see the new park “pretty much in its completed form.”
The city broke ground on Sunset Park in August 2008.
One of at least half a dozen new recreation sites the city has started or committed to building in the next few years, Sunset Park covers 19 acres along La Mirada Drive near the city’s border with Vista.
The park features a lighted, multipurpose field, a lighted, artificial turf soccer arena, a disc golf course, an off-leash dog park, a water play area, a playground, an exercise trail and picnic areas.
