Cousin Thinking About College
Written by admin on June 14, 2010
So, this past weekend we had a get together here at the house, a little early “happy summer” family party. You know, anything to get the folks together to have a good time, right? Anyway, my little cousin was here (well, I say little, she’s a senior in high school lol) and we were talking about school and life in general. I guess sometimes maybe it’s easier to talk to other family members than parents. Anyway, she was talking to me about scholarships, etc…and how difficult it was to get one. And while it might not be the easiest thing in the world, it’s very much obtainable…you just have to go about it the right ways. I told her to check out this link that will point her to easy scholarships and to set up an appointment with her guidance counselor at school. That will get her on the right foot

My Poor Computer
Written by admin on June 14, 2010
Ugh, it is sooo slow right now. And honestly, it’s not that old. Maybe a year or two? It’s just so frustrating when the registry gets all clogged up and really, it’s almost impossible to prevent it. So, I’m getting a cheap online registry cleaner – I’ve decided it. I’ve been doing my research on them and I think I’ve come to a final conclusion about it. Hopefully it’ll fix up my computer being so slow and the registry just being a burden. I tell ya, computers – temperamental things if there ever was one. Am I right?!

Carlsbad’s Lack Of Improvements A Sore Spot
Written by admin on June 11, 2010
Carlsbad ought to spend money on open-space preservation and traffic-light synchronization, rather than on its costly municipal golf course, a series of residents declared during a lively budget workshop Thursday.
One resident who is a traffic engineer said Carlsbad’s traffic light system is “all screwed up,” and urged fellow workshop participants to force Carlsbad’s leaders to improve it.
Two land preservation proponents said the city has ignored residents’ wishes for years and hasn’t spent “one dime” of the money that voters authorized for habitat preservation back in 2002. They were particularly upset, they said, about how the city failed to buy the “Village H” property in northeastern Carlsbad. And really, I find it hard to blame them. The city, with all the money they have, does a real poor job at doing the right thing for the town.

Fixing Your Debt
Written by admin on June 11, 2010
I touched on this yesterday a bit, but, some of my fellow friends are just the worst when it comes to money. I mean, it’s one thing to just be bad with money but it’s a whole different thing to be bad with money and not care. They really don’t seem to grasp the fact that their mistakes now will still haunt them down the road. I’ve talked to them about their spending habits and getting into debt issues, but, it seems like it falls on deaf ears which is sad. I know a couple have taken my advice and looked at www.debtconsolidationconnection.com which I feel is a premier non profit education service offering assistance with debt consolidation and credit counseling. So, if you’re in the same boat as they are – don’t make the same mistake. Get some help. It’ll be well worth it, especially down the road.

Sister Is Getting Married
Written by admin on June 10, 2010
So, a few days ago my sister told me she was getting married (boy, thanks for leaving me out of the loop!!). Anyway, after the normal congrats, etc, I told her if there was anything she needed me to do, to let me know and I’d do my best. Well, I guess I shouldn’t have asked cause she already had it all lined up…haha. Anyway, my first plan of attack is that she wants me to find some really nice wedding invitations for her. Now, I’m not really sure where I should go or even where to start, so, I just started looking for reviews of wedding invites on the net and came across some really nice examples which I think fit her style/want/need. Now I just have to get approval from the bride to be along with the info she wants on them and boom – she’ll have the best damn wedding invites she could have ever imagined! hah

What About Short Selling?
Written by admin on June 10, 2010
The economy has been killer as we’re all aware of I’m sure, but, I’m thinking of looking into short sales on a “vacation home” I have and was curious as to what my readers know about short selling. Have you done it before? What has been your experience?

Cheap Auto Insurance?
Written by admin on June 10, 2010
You know something I’ll never understand? Why so many friends drive without any type of auto insurance. Seriously, it just boggles my mind as to why they drive around without it. I mean, first off and most importantly, it’s totally illegal to drive without it. I guess they don’t care, but, they will when something bad happens. Secondly, not only is it illegal to drive without it, if something bad DOES happen, the ramifications to your financial situation can be devastating. I mean think about it, first off, you’re going to have to pay to repair your car out of your own pocket. That right there is going to be a ton of money (sometimes even more expensive than buying a brand new car). Second, you’re going to be in trouble with the law. And third, the person you end up crashing with (assuming it’s not a single car accident), now they have to deal with somebody who doesn’t have insurance which makes it harder on all parties involved. I guess they just think “oh, it wont happen to me”…but that’s the wrong type of mentality to have. I always ask them why they don’t get some cheap auto insurance – and the continued response I get is some silly shrug of the shoulders or a “I don’t know”…and it’s just frustrating. I want to see them protected and safe if something bad happens. I say this because I’ve seen it first hand with another friend. He didn’t have auto insurance and he was rear-ended by another car. It totally wasn’t his fault but it completely destroyed the back end of his car and he had damages ranging into the 10,000’s of dollars. And he only paid like 8,000 for the car…so he spent more fixing the car than he did to even buy it. All because he lacked auto insurance. So silly.

Tri City Board Adds New Member
Written by admin on June 8, 2010
Hospital directors seated retired accountant Ira Landis Monday to serve until November at Tri-City Medical Center’s seventh board member.
Landis, a resident of Oceanside’s Ocean Hills community, received a 4-2 vote of confidence from the Tri-City board with directors Ron Mitchell and Kathleen Sterling dissenting.
Initially, four candidates were in the running for the board seat vacated by Dr. Madeline Rodriguez, who resigned during a board meeting on Apr. 21 after disagreements over employment of the public hospital’s executive director caused public backlash at the meeting.
The field narrowed to three after Doreen Gounaris withdrew her bid for the spot. The board also interviewed retired business consultant Mary Beth Tompane and chiropractor Thomas Payne for the position.
Board members gave no reason for selecting Landis over the others, though board Chairwoman RoseMarie Reno indicated that she thought all three were well-qualified.
