My Poor Computer

Written by admin on June 14, 2010

Ugh, it is sooo slow right now. And honestly, it’s not that old. Maybe a year or two? It’s just so frustrating when the registry gets all clogged up and really, it’s almost impossible to prevent it. So, I’m getting a cheap online registry cleaner – I’ve decided it. I’ve been doing my research on them and I think I’ve come to a final conclusion about it. Hopefully it’ll fix up my computer being so slow and the registry just being a burden. I tell ya, computers – temperamental things if there ever was one. Am I right?!

Temecula High Breaks Record – 1,200 Graduate

Written by admin on June 11, 2010

Temecula Valley High School valedictorian Allison Wolfe said she resorted to bribing classmates with doughnuts to secure enough tickets for all of her friends and family to attend her graduation Thursday.

The sugary treats worked: Wolfe had 20 guests in the crowd when she addressed the class Thursday evening.

She led a class of 532 graduates who celebrated 25 years of Temecula Valley High School during commencement ceremonies.

Later, 723 Great Oak High School seniors received diplomas on a chilly night more appropriate for October football than a June graduation.

Wolfe’s cheering section included her parents, friends and even her pastor.

A big congrats to everybody who graduated. That’s an amazing accomplishment. Props are sent out to the school as well.

Alpha Project Set To Resume

Written by admin on June 11, 2010

The Alpha Project for the Homeless is resuming operation of the city’s drop-in center for people who live on the street — two years after losing its long-standing contract to Father Joe Carroll’s St. Vincent de Paul organization.

The transition, which takes place July 1, returns control of the Neil Good Day Center to the Alpha Project, the nonprofit that operated the center between 1991 and 2008.

I think this is a wonderful thing that they do…so glad to see it back on its feet.

Carlsbad’s Lack Of Improvements A Sore Spot

Written by admin on June 11, 2010

Carlsbad ought to spend money on open-space preservation and traffic-light synchronization, rather than on its costly municipal golf course, a series of residents declared during a lively budget workshop Thursday.

One resident who is a traffic engineer said Carlsbad’s traffic light system is “all screwed up,” and urged fellow workshop participants to force Carlsbad’s leaders to improve it.

Two land preservation proponents said the city has ignored residents’ wishes for years and hasn’t spent “one dime” of the money that voters authorized for habitat preservation back in 2002. They were particularly upset, they said, about how the city failed to buy the “Village H” property in northeastern Carlsbad. And really, I find it hard to blame them. The city, with all the money they have, does a real poor job at doing the right thing for the town.

Escondido Schools Still Struggling

Written by admin on June 11, 2010

Escondido teachers kept their shirts on at Thursday night’s school board meeting, while parents of Felicita Elementary students delivered a petition pleading to keep teachers at their school next semester.

Teachers disappointed with contract negotiations in the Escondido Union School District staged a dramatic protest two weeks ago by throwing shirts on the floor in front of trustees and claiming they only had “the shirts off our backs” left to give after accepting salary reductions and increased insurance fees.

Romero Maratea, president of the Escondido Elementary Educators Association, which represents teachers in the district, did not speak at Thursday’s meeting but said outside the board room that the last of 10 negotiation sessions with trustees had been completed Wednesday without resolution.

Teachers are working under a contract that runs until June 2011, but wages and benefits are renegotiated each year. Maratea said the union is prepared to continue negotiating into the summer and is waiting to hear back from the board.

Check it out – looks sweet!

Fixing Your Debt

Written by admin on June 11, 2010

I touched on this yesterday a bit, but, some of my fellow friends are just the worst when it comes to money. I mean, it’s one thing to just be bad with money but it’s a whole different thing to be bad with money and not care. They really don’t seem to grasp the fact that their mistakes now will still haunt them down the road. I’ve talked to them about their spending habits and getting into debt issues, but, it seems like it falls on deaf ears which is sad. I know a couple have taken my advice and looked at www.debtconsolidationconnection.com which I feel is a premier non profit education service offering assistance with debt consolidation and credit counseling. So, if you’re in the same boat as they are – don’t make the same mistake. Get some help. It’ll be well worth it, especially down the road.

Mary Vargas Claims Victory

Written by admin on June 10, 2010

Assemblywoman Mary Salas declared victory Wednesday over Democratic rival Juan Vargas in the 40th state Senate district after the race was too close to call Tuesday night.

With the vast majority of ballots counted, Salas, D-Chula Vista, had gained a slim but apparently solid enough margin to secure the Democratic nomination in the district that stretches from the South Bay and south coastal San Diego into Riverside and Imperial counties.

Good for her!! Well deserved in my book.

Safety Cuts In Lake Elsinore

Written by admin on June 10, 2010

Pressured by the Lake Elsinore City Council to make a $12,000 budget cut, the city’s Public Safety Advisory Commission did that and a little bit more Wednesday with the help of a fellow agency.

The commissioners voted 4-0, with Nicole Dailey absent, to save the city a total of $12,600 through the following measures:

– Going without legal representation at their meetings and reducing reliance on the city attorney’s help, an estimated savings of $6,000.

– Cutting their proposed $6,000 operational budget in half.

– Saving $3,600 after representatives of the Citizens Corps Council agreed to sacrifice having a legal adviser at their meetings.

The commissioners stressed that they had always been willing to do their part in the citywide fiscal bloodletting to counter a $3.8 million shortfall, and that they felt they had been wrongly portrayed in council budget sessions as being unwilling to sacrifice.

“The last 10 days I thought that the commission has come under attack, although so unfairly, by the City Council,” Chairman Mike Norkin said.

Commissioner Renee Cummings said, “I get a little nerve-wracked when this commission gets treated like the red-headed stepchild.”

The angst stemmed from an initial proposal, broached at a council budget workshop in late May, to save $12,000 by limiting the commission to meetings once every three months rather than monthly.
